Fees and How We Work

We believe in transparency about cost. You should know what to expect before you commit to any legal work.

Initial Consultations

Most matters begin with a 30 to 60 minute consultation by phone, video, or in person. We offer initial consultations at no cost for many practice areas, and for substantive consultations involving in-depth case review (particularly in immigration and complex business matters), we charge a consultation fee that is credited toward your engagement if you retain us. We will let you know the consultation arrangement when you schedule.

Flat Fees

For most predictable matters, we work on flat fees quoted in writing before we begin. This includes immigration applications (family-based petitions, naturalization, most investor visa work), estate planning packages, standard business formation and contracts, uncontested probate matters, and real estate transactions. You will know the cost up front, and we do not bill in six-minute increments for these matters.

Hourly and Retainer Arrangements

For matters where the work is harder to predict (litigation, complex disputes, ongoing business counsel, contested probate, asset protection planning that involves multiple entities), we use hourly billing with a clear engagement letter. For ongoing business clients, we offer monthly retainer arrangements that provide predictable legal support without per-call billing surprises.

Contingency

We occasionally accept matters on a contingency basis where appropriate and ethically permissible, typically in selected civil litigation matters.

Costs and Disbursements

Government filing fees, court costs, recording fees, expert witness fees, and similar third-party costs are separate from attorney fees and are passed through to the client. Examples include USCIS filing fees on immigration matters and title and recording fees on real estate transactions. We provide estimates of these costs at the outset.

Payment Plans

Payment plans are available for many matters. We will discuss the available options at engagement.

What We Will Not Do

We will not quote a fee without understanding the matter, will not surprise you with charges you were not expecting, and will not nickel-and-dime you for routine communications about your case. We will be honest about cost at the outset and at any point in the matter when something changes.
